Lifestyle Enrichment for Alzheimer's Prevention

The KU Alzheimer's Disease Center is proud to offer our Lifestyle Enrichment for Alzheimer's Prevention (LEAP!) program. This innovative program translates the latest Alzheimer's disease prevention research into actionable recommendations for everyday life.

Through LEAP!, we partner with senior living communities to optimize their brain health resources and educate both staff and residents on Alzheimer's prevention.

Residents in participating communities can receive our Smart Aging textbook, along with a 6-week Foundations of LEAP! course and periodic continuing education throughout the year. We cover topics like nutrition, physical activity, sleep, social engagement, stress management, and cognitive engagement. Our six-week Foundations of LEAP! class is also available to the general public at the KU Clinical Research Center off of Shawnee Mission Parkway. Click here for more information about upcoming Foundations of LEAP! classes.

We work together with staff to optimize opportunities for socialization, cognitive stimulation, physical activity, exercise, and healthy eating. Our nutrition experts collaborate with dining services at each community to ensure the availability of brain-healthy meal options.

LEAP! Communities:

Each community that participates in our program has the opportunity to become a LEAP! Community. Every LEAP! Community has been evaluated by KU ADC staff to ensure that they meet our standards for retirement communities that promote brain health. Each LEAP! Community has been verified to offer:

  • Education on healthy living for Alzheimer's prevention
  • Brain-healthy meal options
  • Physical activity and exercise opportunities
  • Social and cognitive engagement opportunities
  • Support for stress and grief management
